Nail fungus is easier to treat in the early stages of the infection – if you do suspect that you may have a fungal nail infection of either the toenails or fingernails it is highly advised to seek attention now before its spreads.
- Tea tree oil is effective in treating toe nail fungus. Dip a cotton ball in the oil and rub the toe nail two times a day – once in the morning and the second time while going to bed at night.
- Fill a bucket with equal proportion of water and natural apple cider vinegar. Soak your feet in the bucket for 15 to 20 minutes. Thereafter, dry your toenails thoroughly.
- Apply Vitamin E oil to affected nails once or twice daily. With this treatment it takes awhile to show progress. As the nail grows out it will grow healthy and fungus free.
- Rubbing alcohol is easily available at any pharmacy. Soak the affected toenail/s in rubbing alcohol for about 20 minutes twice daily (morning and just before going to bed). Dry thoroughly using super absorbent paper towels.
- Hydrogen Peroxide (3%) is easily available at any pharmacy. Soak the affected toenail/s in pure hydrogen peroxide (3%) for 20 minutes twice daily (morning and just before going to bed). Some may feel the pure undiluted solution a bit harsh. Mix half water and half hydrogen peroxide and soak feet. Dry with super absorbent paper towel.
- Peel an onion very well and then cut it into slices. Then you rub the affected toenail with the onion slices for while. A lot of people find this is an effective way to treat any type of fungal infections.

Initially the fungus infection will appear either as a white or yellow spot just beneath the tip of either the fingernail or toenail. When the fungus eats up the nail keratin and penetrates the nail further, the nails develop some characteristics. These characteristics could be thickening of the nails with the edges tending to crumble, become brittle and ragged. Discoloration of the nails could be seen as well.
Nail fungus is an infection that could occur in either the toenails or fingernails. Technically it is referred to as tinea unguium or onychomychosis.
