Navratri is the special festival to enjoy the food recipes. With the start of navratri fasting and feasting season is back again, although most of us agree that this is the right time to lose weight but somehow healthy eating a backseat for most people. Instead of fasting, most of us end up feasting on high-calorie food in these nine days. Even though some of your family members observe fasting, the remaining people will enjoy the special food festival at home. Here are some tips for dieting during navratri.

Diet Tips for Navratri

Include lots of liquids in your diet as this will help in cleaning the toxins in your body. Fruit and vegetable Juices, coconut water and vegetable soups are the best options for you!

To avoid the occurrence of acidity and heartburn, avoid having empty stomach for long hours. Eat small and frequent meals. You would be glad to know that milk and cream are very effective remedies of acidity.

Forget keeping the fry pan with oil for frying. Make paranthas instead of puris and use yogurt in the dough instead of oil. Avoid halwas as they have a lot of ghee.

Eat veggies like pumpkin and bottol guard indifferent form like soups to fill you up with a few calories.

Sabudana khichdi can be made with minimal oil in the microwave. Use boiled potatoes, only a few crushed peanuts and well soaked sabudana. Cook it only a few minutes before mealtime and have it hot and freshly made.

Use rajgira flour to make chapattis. It’s lighter and refreshing.

Limit your potato intake (which is main food during navratri) to about twice a week.

If you are a foodie and want to please your palate, make some idli and dosa from the samak ke chawal.

Special Recipe for Navratri

Fruit raita


2 bananas, few roasted cumin seeds, ¼ tsp chili powder, 1 tsp sugar, 1 tsp ground cumin, 75gm seedless grapes, rock salt to taste, 350ml plain curd, 50 gm shelled walnuts


Use chilled curd. Add grapes and walnuts to it.

Slice banana directly into bowl and fold in gently before banana turn brown.

Now add sugar, ground cumin, salt and mix nicely.

Sprinkle cumin seeds and some chili powder and serve chilled.
